Hello all:
I have a friend with a 6-year-old autistic daughter who is somewhat out of control. She's in a public school for autistic children in New York City.
The mom used to disdain ABA therapy and, indeed, didn't even send her daughter to school at various points if her daughter didn't want to go. The result is--the child is barely talking and is not potty trained and the mother told me that she is trying to regain some control over her daughter. I actually think the child is on the verge of talking (using sentences) if she could be trained systematically.
I'm a big fan of ABA therapy if it's done by loving, flexible teachers and told her that I believe an at-home program is the best bet for her child.
At this point, if the mother had more money, she would hire private therapists to come to her home and help train her daughter. However, she doesn't have much money (she's on SSDI) and so she needs to learn to do what she can on her own.
Can anyone recommend any books or videos or websites about how to use ABA training at home for a child?
Thanks for any help.
