I work with the Elderly popoulation and lately with many folks with Dement and Alzheimers. It is amazing to me that a lot of the teaching and coping methods used in Autism are also used with Alziheimers' patients.

Yesterday I did some Google reseach to find out if there were programs for Elderly with Autism. What I discovered was that scientist are qustioning Alzheimers as possibly Autism in Elders.

Click on this link and you will find 98 traits of Autism that are the same as Alzheimers.

If this article peaks your intterest a bit. The drug memantine can bbe used effectively in treating both conditions. "Aman is testing the drug in children with autism at Ohio State's Nisonger Center. Aman said memantine has been used in Alzheimer's patients for nearly a decade in the United States and may help in autism, too. In both diseases, there is a malfunction in the brain involving a chemical called glutamate, which impacts the patient's speech and interaction."

Wow Sharon, that is a very interesting thought. I will read the article. Is the Aman that is reference Dr. Daniel Aman?
Dr. Michael Aman, a researcher at the Ohio State University Medical Center.
Hi Sharon,
Yes....my research friend and I have said for years that Alzheimers is adult autism caused by heavy metal toxicity in the brain. These people administering the memantine can try to address the glutamate receptors and the cascade effect but if they do not detox these adults they will never recover from their problems. This is the generation that has eaten all their foods in aluminum cans. They are loaded with aluminum when they are given a hair elemental test.Of course if they give the elderly magnesium maleate to get rid of their aluminum, there would then be no need for nursing homes and all the other funding they generate. What a sad state of affairs!

Good Morning Maria,
We need more discussion aroud this issue. Discussion with families, friends, Doctors and some study groups that are willing to try alternatives to drugs, drugs, drugs. What a wonderful thought..no more nursing homes. A nursing home is absolutely the last place and elderlly person wants to go to. Thank you for your comments.

Hi Sharon,
Most of the MD's have their hands tied by the American Medical Association when it comes to properly testing the hair for toxic metals. Most of the labs on "formulary"do not have equipment sensitive enough to uncover the true problems. If you have an elderly person in your family and don't mind paying 89.00 out of pocket ,go to www.directlabs.com and order your own test. All you need to do is cut the hair sample and send it in.Washing the hair with baby shampoo for 2 weeks prior to the test helps to cleanse the hair for proper sampling.Drugs have their place when all other natural supplements, herbs, nutraceuticals are not effective. My 80 year old father actually was able to get off all his drugs by eating organic, taking a litany of vitamins and walking everyday. He has no more high cholesterol, high blood pressure or diabetes. His doctor tested his blood twice because he did not believe a man his age could have blood counts like his! The body is a miracle that heals itself when given the right recipe of nutrients and diet.
Thank you for this webiste. So very ahppy to hear that your Father is doing well. Congratulations.
