Our family went to Wings for Autism Day yesterday at Logan Airport and it was a wonderful experience.  They will be having another event in the fall but don't have the date yet.  There is already a waitlist of 150 and they allow 200. Please see the info below

The Charles River Autism Support Center, in partnership with MassPort, Logan Airport and TSA, will offer an airport rehearsal for children with autism spectrum disorders. To alleviate some of the stress involved in taking a family vacation with a child with autism, inThe Charles River Center will alsod train personnel at Logan Airport to help them accommodate families when traveling with a child with special needs.

what a great idea, I think all airports should have to do that. :-)
Sounds like a great program.  Can someone give a breakdown as to what happens while there?
You will receive a social story in the mail with pictures detailing the day beginning from the drive to the airport. You would go to the designated gate and receive boarding passes for everyone in the family. There will be a specified gate (with no wait) and you will be asked to show your ID's and the children will be asked his or her name. Then you will head through the metal detectors and take of shoes and put them and any belongings in the bins, wait in line to board the plane. There was a group of people after security greeting everyone with "Wings for Autism" shirts and talking to everyone. The pilot was wonderful and put his jacket on my son and wings. There is some media taking pictures but not intrusive and only a few. They give the kids a bag of snacks with a bottle of water when boarding. Everyone sits down for a little bit and can wander around checking out the plane and the cockpit is available to sit in. The airline was Jet Blue and they have the TV's behind every seat and gave you headphones. When deboarding, they lined the walls clapping for everyone. Then they had a reception afterwards with food and drinks and "Wings for Autism shirts" with a few people who spoke. It was a wonderful experience, put together very well and all the kids did amazing.
