My son has been going to OT at the same place for over four years now. He had a serious tantrum last week and we were just told that if it happens again, he will not be allowed to return. I love his OT and so doesn't he so it is very disappointing. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make it more successful or any OT's in the area that are great?See More

"Do social stories help? I'm sure there is one for transition to new school or one you could use as a template. As for books, I've see them for transition to middle and high school. Sorry I don't know a specific book."

HI Melanie, my son Aidan was diagnosed with autism three months ago. I won't say that I am sorry, but that it's just a change from what you had dreamed your life was going to be. We both receive amazing services from Gateways program Parent 2 Child. I don't know if you are familiar, but lots started improving for us from week 1. Best wishes, Paula

Melanie, There are lots of supports available locally to help your son and your family. Early intervention is the most important step and your diagnosis is the first step. My nephew was diagnosed early on and is now 10 at school and doing very well with no in school supports for the first time last year. He spent this past weekend with us, independent of his parents and his regular routine, and he did fine -- and we had so much fun. My nephew is a joy, and a gift, and my children welcome his "quirks" with open arms.

Hi Melanie!

I am reposting this because I got my threads confused...
Aug 17 is ok as the program won't start until September. I don't know much about services for Asperger's (my son has regular autism), but as his advocate get ready to fight! Insurance companies love to deny services just cause.
Good luck!

Melanie, Welcome to NAN! I hope you find the site useful but remember it's as useful as you make it. You will find all of us as parents and/or professionals are here to help.  I have two children on the spectrum and spent many many hours on google but learned the most by a quick post and a 1/4 of the time on google.  Remember, there is never a silly question.  More and more children are mainstreaming these days. Kudos to you for jumping on NAN!

She's ok but not her happy self.  She needs to go for EEG this week.  Looks like some break through seizures.  The headaches are tough on her.
