First Course graduate Sean Morse earned a perfect-attendance award from the Keene culinary program. (COURTESY)

KEENE – Diagnosed with autism at 3, Sean Morse was going to have a cubicle job, spend his days entering data and live with his parents forever and ever. It was what it was, said his mother, Danielle Morse.

But at 21, Sean Morse had different ideas: He was going to continue with school, live away from home, get a job and be married by… Continue

Ten Commandments for Parents of Handicapped Children

Posted on December 26, 2009 at 6:00am 0 Comments

I found this article and thought it was very Inspirational for a Happy New Year.

TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR PARENTS OF HANDICAPPED CHILDREN

1. Take one day at a time, and take that day positively. You don't have control over the future, over today, or over any other day, and neither does anyone else. Other people just think they do.

2. Never underestimate your child's… Continue

Autism Speaks. It’s a Living.

Posted on December 14, 2009 at 10:25am 0 Comments

Autism Speaks recently announced on their website that due to the poor economy they have to “postpone” grant making and giving for 2009. Yes, this charity that hauled in a reported $68 million in funds last year has fallen on hard times. Sad, really, on the surface. But dig deeper. I ask you to consider the following information, taken straight from this organization’s IRS 990 form on their own website:

Geraldine Dawson, Chief Science… Continue

The problem with seeing the future is you would then change what you are doing now based on the new information and that future would never happen as you saw it, good or bad. That was many years of Star Trek: The Next Generation talking! haha! Yup... I'm a geek. But I am proud of it! :)

I'm doing well! The kids are both huge and getting better every day:) Max is almost typical. It's amazing. Zoe still struggles but she is getting there. I've been doing ABA off and on for the last few years. I'm trying to get more education right now in "Floortime" therapy. I've seen people use it and get results. I want to congratulate you on your new job at Gateways! Happy to see that in my newsletter. Hope everything else is good with you. Let me know if you want to get together sometime:)

Aiden lost his tooth at school, so I only have his play by play. It sounded very typical of him. He was eating an apple and didn't even notice his tooth fall out until the other kids were screaming that there was blood all over his apple. He said"the teacher sent me to the nurse and I missed the rest of snack, but i was glad snack was over because I didn't want to eat that bloody apple." He is too funny!

He was really afraid to go to sleep that night, though. He did not want the tooth fairy in his room.
